Symmetry analysis and visualisation of quadrupolar ordering in crystals

In some heavy rare-earth compound quadrupolar ordering has been observed. The poster shows an example of symmetry analysis of quadrupolar ordering and the accompanying structural and magnetic phase transitions (in CeB6 and DyB2C2 compounds) using MODY_win program. Such symmetry analysis is very useful because it can give both - hints and model verification for experimental investigations of quadrupolar ordering. Without the symmetry analysis the interpretation of experimental results encounters considerable difficulties.

Poster also presents a short introduction and an example of quadrupolar moment order visualisation, by TENSOR_vis program. The proper description of visualisation is important because in many papers the problem has been oversimplified and the graphical presentation is not adequate.
